WORLDS APART
WORLDS APART is a new play set in India/Pakistan and the UK during and just after the partition of India in 1947. It focuses on the lives of an Anglo-Indian family and the effects these major events have on their individual lives.
Written by Darren Rapier and directed by Stuart Murdoch, Worlds Apart will be on at The Brockley Jack Theatre, London, from the 14th June for four weeks, presented by Spanner in the Works.
The play takes place over two time periods, 14 years apart, highlighting how events have affected Vincent and Conny Richardson’s lives and their relationship. As Anglo-Indians they find themselves suddenly without a homeland: India, where they were born, no longer requires an elite middle class, loyal to the British; By the time they arrive in England it has had its quota of immigrants from the workforce of the Empire.
The play it based on the true story of the playwright’s own family and has many resonances with modern attitudes to immigration and asylum.
Worlds Apart runs from Tuesday the 14th June until Saturday the 9th July 2005 at 7.30pm. Performances are Tuesday – Sunday (except the last week). Tickets can be purchased on the door or via the box office on 020 8291 6354. They are priced at £9, £7 concessions. On Tuesdays all tickets are £5. The Brockley Jack Theatre is at 410 Brockley Road, London, SE4 2EL.
